Dealing with a Chocolate Mountain

The idea of Chocolate at Easter is for me way better than the reality. I mean chocolate is great and all, but I am more of a savoury girl so I find it really hard to get through Easter bunny’s offerings.

As I was mournfully staring at the pile of chocolate I was thinking through some options for using some up. I didn’t want to make chocolate mousse because that’s what I normally do, and chocolate brownies seemed a little pedestrian too. Then I thought of a recipe to get rid of some that I hadn’t made in ages – Black Forest Gateau! Black Forest Gateau is made up of sponge type layers filled with cherry compote and decorated with cream, extra cherries and, of course, chocolate.

The great thing about it is that you decorate the whole cake with chocolate shavings or bits. So thank you gateau for helping to lessen the chocolate glut!

If you aren’t familiar with Black Forest Gateau, you may find the sponge layers a bit unusual but the recipe is correct so hang in there. I know chocolate gateau isn’t in the Edmonds but I was a desperate woman so please forgive me. Here is my recipe for chocolate gateau. My recipe is non-alcoholic but kirsch can be used in place of grenadine if you prefer.
