Weights and Measures

All measurements I use in my recipes are New Zealand standard metric cup and spoon measures.

The egg size I use is size 7 unless stated otherwise.

spoonsThe standard measures are:

  • 1 cup = 250 ml or 8.4 fluid ounces
  • 1 litre = 4 cups or 33.8 fluid ounces
  • 1 Tablespoon = 15 ml or 0.5 fluid ounces
  • 1 dessertspoon = 10 ml or 0.33 fluid ounces
  • 1 teaspoon = 5 ml or 0.17 fluid ounces
  • ½ teaspoon = 2.5 ml or 0.085 fluid ounces
  • ¼ teaspoon = 1.25 ml or 0.04 fluid ounces

Metric to imperial conversions (approximate):

  • Weight:
    • 30 g = 1 ounce
    • 50 g = 1¾ ounces
    • 120 g = 4 ounces
    • 240 g = 8 ounces
    • 450 g = 1 pound
    • 1 kg = 2¼ pounds
  • Volume:
    • 1 litres = 1¾ pints
  • Lengths:
    • 2.5 cm = 1 inch
    • 20 cm = 8 inches
    • 30 cm = 12 inches
